Calvert Detached ADU + Addition

This project focused on designing a 1,200 square-foot, 2-bedroom in-law unit at the rear of the client’s backyard, seamlessly blending with their existing ranch-style home, STEP Design Studio worked closely with the client to incorporate design elements from the main house, creating a layout that prioritized privacy for both the client and their mother. The ADU features a spacious front porch and large windows to enhance natural light and connect with the backyard.

In addition to the ADU, the project included two expansions to the main house. The front addition added two bedrooms, an office, a bathroom, and a playroom, while the rear addition included an office, bathroom, and guestroom. Both additions were thoughtfully designed to integrate harmoniously with the existing structure.

STEP Design Studio managed the project from start to finish, overseeing concept design, design development, permitting, and ensuring the final result met the client’s vision and needs.
